After sitting outside for many years, our Ingersoll-Rand air compressor is undergoing a thorough overhaul. It is hoped that once the overhaul is completed, we will mount it in a box wagon and it will be available for use on track work.

Concreting our workshop is continuing slowly but surely. The most recent piece to be done is the front-eastern corner where we are to build a ‘wardrobe’ to store our collection of railway uniforms.

Early this morning, B10's chassis on the Nf wagon was moved outside and B10's wheelsets were put over the pit behind. The wheel sets were set up at the correct spacing in preperation to have the chassis lowered back onto them.

We also took delivery of a new diesel loco. This loco was previously used as a shunter at Aliance Group's Pukeuri freezing works. Although the loco had not been used by the works for about two years, they started it once a month to keep it going. It runs very well, but has a lot of wear due to old age. When we restore it, it will also receive train brakes as at this stage it only has straight air brakes.

After the new diesel loco arrived, we received a new steam engine. This is believed to be Uc366 and has been recently recovered from the Oamaru foreshore where it was dumped in the 1930's as erosion protection. As the Uc's boiler is wrecked, we also got what is believed to be a Ub boiler, also from the same place. The wrecked boiler will be removed and the Ub boiler placed in the frame. The loco will be tidied up as a static display out the front of our workshop.

Smokebox
B10's smoke box is coming along nicely. It has been coated in a special heat resistant paint which should put an end to corrosion of which it has suffered badly in the past.

WW7770's frame is continuing to be painted and is nearing the end with only a few touch-ups to be done. The motor is awaiting attention as it hasn't received any during its time at OSR.

Sea of red
Work is continuing on our motor trolley, ex-NZR WW7770, with the bulk of the frame painting completed. Once painting is finished, the gearbox will be mounted back in the frame.

Wheel Sets
B10's axel boxes have been re-packed and fitted to the axels. The axels are now ready to have the chassis lowered back onto them.
